Before starting the search engine of the shotv.com,
Jay never thought he would send email to any one. But there is a voice in
his mind keeping persuading him "why not, why not have a try." Then
he sent the first email to Lucy. Because the first, Lucy had her last name in the
name description; the second, she had ICQ#, and the third, she inputted some words in the
description as 'I am waiting for your mail...'
The
first mail Lucy sent Jay kind of let him down. She talked to Jay like a general
talking to a soldier, commanding him that no phone, no meeting, and email
only?! Well, for Jay that did not matter at all. In fact, if Lucy
had invited him to make a friend with her, he really did not know how to see
her. And more importantly, when a girl had something to hide, it simply
implied that she had something unusual, didn't
it?
Jay
told Lucy a fib initially. He told her that he graduated from Shanghai
University. The rests were all truth, including his middle school was
Gezhi. After having read a few Lucy抯
email, Jay made a conclusion
that Lucy抯 English
is well above 99.9% of college graduates in Shanghai. Therefore, Jay asked
her if she graduated from Shanghai Foreign Language University. It turned
out that she studied at the same university that Jay made up. Well, after all,
Shanghai University is not a small place. She had no way to verify the
genuineness. We accidentally became 'schoolmates'.
Based
on ordinary pattern, our relationship would be no more than online friends,
which meant that all the recognition of the other party was merely a name (has
significant chance to be fake) and some words about films, or hobbies, or
whatever unimportant at all. However, something with the chance nearly
zero did take place to us... And
it entirely changed our lives. What was the chance for knowing whom the
person you met online was, seeing how she looked like, and knowing where she
lived and worked by browsing the websites, without the aid of search
engines? Actually, absolutely no useful information about Lucy may be
retrieved by any most powerful search engines. Who was she? Who
knew? Maybe Lucy was a boy, who was making fun of me. In the earlier
time in August 1999, while Jay was scrolling down a list of members in the Gezhi
club at Yahoo!, a very familiar name suddenly brought his immediate
attention. Both the last name and first name matched! He figured out
that the chance to be right was approximately one in fifty. But when Jay
looked at the email address, oh, God, he really couldn't
trust his eyes that it was
true. She concealed the fact that Lucy and Jay were real classmates, while
chatting with him. Lucy looked so beautiful on the only picture on the web
page, sitting beside of our common mathematics teacher in Gezhi. Jay looked up
and down at Lucy抯 picture
for many times, encouraging himself that 'I must see her, know her, and finally
spend days with her!'
Jay
decided to tell Lucy the complete truth about him! It was like a
gamble. What if she turned me down? Nevertheless, Jay knew one thing
certain. That was to be completely trusted by a girl, he need to
completely trust her first; to be loved thoroughly by her, he must love her
thoroughly first. After releasing a few personal information to Lucy to
surprise her, Jay as expectedly got the chance to tell her that he was living in
the US when she asked me who he was. Jay told her that do notify him when
she came to study in the US, because he knew that Lucy was preparing applying
for US graduate schools. But his mind was clear that her coming to the US
within two years was a beautifully wishful thinking. Then what happened? We must
have met afterwards; otherwise, we would not be together today.
Right? But how? It was a miracle. God arranged us to meet in the US
far quicker than we ever imagined?
Two
weeks passed quickly? A short email was delivered to Jay's inbox.
The content was simple. Lucy said she possibly would have a business
training opportunity in the U.S. in September. Jay was indeed
astonished! Although the opportunity might be cancelled by any reason at
any time, the sixth sense told him that she would come for sure. Jay would
welcome a girl from the same middle school that he went to, but never seen or
known before. What a challenging life he was facing! And what had a
great uncertainty Lucy was facing! We two since that time had experienced
so much hardships that any tiny obstacle could separate us. But we
depended on our beliefs and punctiliousness having made our dreams come
true? It was a legendary story that we felt so amazingly similar to the
story of the movie Titanic. And it was real. It took place to Lucy
and Jay. In fact, Lucy and Jay抯 story
was more complicated than the story of Rose and Jack抯.
